Purpose
The main purpose of this document is to provide guidelines for when to apply a formal evaluation process for as described in Decision Analysis and Resolution Process because not every decision is significant enough to require a formal evaluation process.
Scope
This is applicable for all solution integration projects that are carried out at Antares Systems Limited.
When to apply a formal evaluation process
Go/No go assessment for a bid. Refer to Customer engagement process for details.
When a decision is directly related to issues assessed as being of medium or high risk. The value of the risk is determined according to the risk management process.
Determining the life cycle applicable for a project and tailoring of life cycle.
Evaluating the optimal estimate of a project considering different possible scenarios.
Evaluating different possible design schemes, technical solutions using techniques like feedback workshops, product demos, mock ups,type approvals, visual presentations.
Evaluating and selecting suppliers. For details refer to procurement and integrated supplier management process
Evaluation of a major change request for approval by change control board consisting of senior management.
Selection of a tool for project/organization.
Evaluating process innovations pilots conducted at organization level. For details refer to organization process definition & Improvement process.
The objective criteria in terms of impact on schedule, effort, cost, defects for triggering formal evaluation of any project specific issues may be spelt out in the project plan. Project specific issues may be formally evaluated under the following circumstances:
When a decision would cause schedule delays over a certain percentage of time.
When the costs of the formal evaluation process are reasonable when compared to the decision's impact.
When a decision affects the ability to achieve project objectives.
